Supreme Court frowns at adverts in respect of matters pending appeal

Today at the Supreme Court,  Chief Wole Olaonipekun, S.A.N, representing the Appellant in the SENATOR ALPHONSUS IGBEKE vs. LADY MARGERY OKADIGBO & ORS. Case, withdrew his representation for the Appellant on the ground that he discovered by a SUN publication that his Client granted an interview where he extensively discussed the appeal in the 30th May 2013 publication while judgment was slated for 31st May 2013.

The Court expressed its displeasure and stated unequivocally that it would not allow Parties/Litigants to  intimidate it by publishing unsavoury publications. It further stated that Lawyers are officers of the Court and owe the Court the duty not to allow their Clients desecrate the honour and neutrality of the judiciary.

Judgment was thereafter delivered on its merits.
